The Four Days Before My Top Surgery

Updated: Nov 28, 2021

It's safe to say that COVID has altered how my top surgery is happening, in comparison to how I have always pictured it.

The main difference really is the four extra days we were able to spend in Devon, even though most of it was spent in isolation, I cant complain about being in Devon and Cornwall, they're my favourite places to be.

FOUR DAYS BEFORE SURGERY

Today was the day dedicated to the long four hour drive down to Cornwall to the place we were staying at in Callington. The last time we stayed in Callington my mum and I really wanted to go to Louis Tea Room by Kit Hill but we never made it before we had to go home, so as it was only five minutes away from where we were staying again this time, we stoped off on the way. It was a lovely cafe and was even better than we had anticipated, the food was incredible and the staff were incredibly friendly. We stayed at Honicombe Holiday Village in St Anns Chapel, it's somewhere we've stayed before on holiday and knew that it was the perfect place to be able to relax.

THREE DAYS BEFORE SURGERY

Today was the only day before surgery we had where we wouldn't be in isolation so spent the day getting ready for Thursday. On the way to Plymouth, we went past a shop dedicated to tea!😱 I'm obsessed with tea and there's just no way I couldn't go in. It's called Two for Tea in Saltash and was filled with loads of amazing loose leaf tea, biscuits, tea pots and accessories. I bought some Mexican vanilla tea, a little tea spoon and some lemon and white chocolate biscuits.

As it was quite and I could stay away from other people, we had a little walk around Sutton Harbour in Plymouth before having some lunch at the Boston Tea Party. I absolutely love it there, the food is incredible, as are all the drinks, and I have to be sure to visit every time we go to Plymouth.

Then it was time for the real reason we went to Plymouth for the day... the pre-surgery COVID test. It was at a drive through test centre at the Derriford Hospital, directly opposite the Nuffield Hospital. We ended up having our test two hours early as I wanted to drive past so we could be sure we knew where we had to go but didn't realise that when you got to the test centre, there was no way to turn around. Once you were in that part of the hospital, you couldn't get out without going through the test centre. I've never had a COVID test that was done by someone else before, and I can't say it was pleasant... not that any COVID tests are I guess🤣 It was a lot easier having it put down your throat but oh did it hurt having it put up your nose😂 I definitely prefer doing them myself.

TWO DAYS BEFORE SURGERY

So although I have basically been isolating for my surgery since the end of august, today is the first official day of isolation. We started the day by batch cooking loads of meals so that we didn't have to worry about cooking for the first few days after my surgery. I then spent some time out on the decking filling out a bucket list book of things I've been dreaming of doing after surgery. Writing a bucket list has been incredibly beneficial for me to be able to process my emotions and focus on all the reasons I'm going through this surgery.

I then just spent some time editing videos for my YouTube and relaxed by crocheting a small, fluffy squid that I can take into hospital with me to help ease my anxiety.

ONE DAYS BEFORE SURGERY

Today was essentially just a repeat of yesterday. I again spent some time editing videos for YouTube and working on my blog and worked on finishing my little squid so that its ready for tomorrow.

I honestly can't believe my surgery is tomorrow, its nearing a decade that I've been waiting for this moment and am absolutely ecstatic.

I recorded these moments and combined them into a vlog for you to see how beautiful Plymouth is.
